221b Baker Street was home to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson between 1881-1904 (according to the stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). Visit this famous address at The Sherlock Holmes Museum and see a reproduction of Holmes’ 1st floor study overlooking Baker Street. Sit in the famous detective’s armchair, and see his famous magnifying glass, calabash pipe, and notebook. Apparently, the exact location of the famous detective’s address has stirred up a lot of controversy over the years. The Sherlock Holmes Museum is actually located at number 239 Baker Street, and for several years, the local city council was determined to keep the street’s numbers in sequence. In 1990, however, the address of 221b Baker Street was officially assigned to the museum, and to this day, the Royal Mail still delivers Sherlock Holmes’ post to his proper address on Baker Street.
