Lambeth Palace

Located on the south bank of the River Thames in close proximity to the Palace of Westminster, Lambeth Palace has been the London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury for nearly eight hundred years. The red brick Tudor gatehouse known as Morton’s Tower still serves as the main entrance to the Palace, and was built by Cardinal John Morton around 1490, and Thomas Moore is thought to have lived in the Tower when he joined the staff of Lambeth Palace at the age of twelve. Today, Lambeth Palace continues to be the London home of the Archbishop of Canterbury and his family, and the Chapel and the Crypt Chapel are used daily for worship and prayer by the Archbishop and the Sisters at Lambeth.
