Located in St. John’s Wood on the site of a former duck pond, Lord’s Cricket Ground is the setting for some of the best cricket in the world. Built in 1814 and named for its founder, Thomas Lord, the current cricket ground is the third of three grounds that Thomas Lord established in the area. Today, Lord’s is owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) which was formed in 1787 at Lord’s first site once located at nearby Dorset Square. Lord’s is considered the ‘Home of Cricket’, and the MCC remains the guardian of both the Laws and the Spirit of Cricket. Visitors to Lord’s can take a behind the scenes tour and explore the MCC Museum, the oldest sports museum in the world best-known for being home to The Ashes.
