View grisly torture devices and wax figures representing the debtors, heretics and undesirables who were once sent away to The Clink, one of England’s oldest prisons. The Clink Prison Museum stands on the site of the Bishop of Winchester’s notorious jail which held prisoners from as early as 1144 until it burned down in 1780. The Prison was housed within the Bishop’s private retreat, Winchester Palace, one of the largest and most important buildings in medieval London. The Prison was used to control ‘The Liberty of The Clink’ in the Southbank area of London known during the time for bull and bear-baiting, prostitution, and many other darker entertainments.
